ABSTRACT
This paper presents a fuzzy logic-based scheduling method, the Compact Mamdani Fuzzy Inference System (CMFIS), for improving decision-making in manufacturing. CMFIS allows quick evaluation of various scheduling scenarios and can replace shift managers by efficiently handling multiple objectives like prioritization, production capabilities, and time uncertainties.
A case study at ESZO Ltd. illustrates CMFIS’s application in optimizing cutting operations. The system considers machine capacities and material dimensions, dynamically adjusting machine assignments for efficient production. Configured through an Excel-based framework, it processes inputs and produces clear outputs through defuzzification, offering a practical tool for enhancing manufacturing decision-making.
